McNeese officials said they are investigating a report of hazing involving members of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

The university announced the report Wednesday and said it is investigating internally and in conjunction with local authorities.

“The University takes all allegations of hazing very seriously and is conducting an internal investigation in accordance with the Student Organizations Handbook and Code of Student Conduct,” university officials said in a press release. “Hazing in any form is strictly prohibited by University policy. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.”

The university’s Student Handbook prohibits hazing, defined as acts that endanger someone’s health or safety or cause severe emotional distress related to pledging, initiation or membership in an organization, as part of its student code of conduct and on its list of student responsibilities.

The university’s last hazing report was in 2018.
