McNeese football struggled to put points on the board Saturday, falling 38-0 to Southeastern Louisiana University.
The team is on a bye week ahead of the Homecoming game vs. Houston Christian. The homecoming game kicks off at 6 p.m. Oct. 18.
In Saturday’s game, Lions defensive back Ian Conerly-Goodly gave Southeastern a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter when he intercepted a McNeese pass and returned 33 yards for a touchdown. Then, Southeastern’s offense took over. Quarterback Kyle Lowe connected with Jaylon Domingeaux for another touchdown, and running back Deantre Jackson scored twice on the ground.
Just before halftime, Lions quarterback Carson Camp increased the lead to 38–0 with a 69-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Hayes.
McNeese’s passing attack was limited by the Lions’ defense, which kept the Cowboys to only 37 yards in the air while the Lions gained nearly 400 yards of total offense.
McNeese had some success carrying the football, ending the game with 152 rushing yards over the Lions’ 151, but the Cowboys’ 189 yards fell short in comparison to Southeastern Louisiana’s 418 total yards.
With the loss, Southeastern improved to 4–2 overall and 2–0 in conference play. McNeese dropped to 1–5 and 0–2 in conference play. This loss also marked the Cowboys’ first shutout loss at a home game since 2016, when they lost 35-0 against Central Arkansas.
