Students and faculty gathered to celebrate Nepal’s cultural heritage at Nepali Night in the Parra Ballroom Tuesday.
The event, hosted by the Nepali Student Association, included food, dance, music, performances and games, with many attendees dressed in traditional and colorful attire.
The event began with the national anthems of Nepal and the United States, then an introduction by Manabi Paudel, a member of the Nepali Student Association.
Paudel said she wanted people to learn more about the history and culture of Nepalese people.
“The main thing that we intend to achieve with the night is making people more familiar with Nepal and also show people how the Nepalese enjoy every kind of festive through dance, food, music, and getting together,” Paudel said.
The evening included a quiz on landmarks in Nepal. One question highlighted the fact that the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest, is located in Nepal. Nepal has eight of the world’s 14 highest mountains.
After the quiz, dance performances, food, musical chairs, and singing kicked off. NSA President Manish Lohani performed a song.
Groups posed for pictures afterward. Performers received certificates of appreciation. The NSA also recognized its seniors.
“With the Nepali night, we are trying to represent the Nepali culture to the university and the students,” Lohani said. “And also make the Nepalese feel at home by coming to enjoy and get together with their friends.”
