| McNeese grabbed two Southland Conference victories in the last week as they defeated New Orleans 82-63 Jan. 24, and Southeastern 76-66 Tuesday. With the wins, McNeese improved to 10-2 in the Southland Conference. In last week’s battle against New Orleans at Townsley Law Arena, the Cowboys jumped out early, finishing the first half at 42-34. They maintained control of the game throughout the second half, finishing strong with an 82-63 win. McNeese’s guards came through for their team as Larry Johnson led the charge with 26 total points scored including rebounds and assists in the win. Garwey Dual added 14 points, going 100% from the free-throw line, while Tyshawn Archie chipped in with 10 points. “I was very proud of our guys’ effort,” McNeese head coach Bill Armstrong said. “To turn a team over 23 times and have 16 steals – I think we had 41 deflections – just speaks to what we’re capable of when we can get in our rotations.” McNeese added another win Tuesday in Hammond against Southeastern. The Cowboys built a lead midway through the first half and maintained control down the stretch, holding the Lions in the second half to take a 10-point victory. Johnson led McNeese with 20 points, while Dual added 14 points. ” I think we did a lot of good things and then we did a lot of not-so-good things,” Armstrong said. “It was kind of a weird game in that sense where we played unbelievably in stretches and then we played not-so-good in stretches.” McNeese currently holds a 17-4 overall record and faces Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Saturday. |
