McNeese State University signed men’s basketball Head Coach Bill Armstrong and women’s basketball Head Coach Ayla Guzzardo to five-year contract extensions this week.
Athletic Director Heath Schroyer announced Armstrong’s $1.985-million extension Sunday. He announced Guzzardo’s five-year, $877,000 extension Monday.
Armstrong led the Cowboys to an NCAA Tournament appearance in his first year, the team’s third straight.
The No. 12-seed Cowboys lost in the First Round of March Madness to No. 5 Vanderbilt Thursday, but Armstrong said he plans to continue the legacy of winning the Bayou Bandits have established over the last three years.
On the women’s side, Guzzardo’s contract is the largest in Cowgirl program history.
The extension follows a season where the team recorded the largest single-season win turnaround in McNeese women’s basketball history, winning the regular season Southland Conference championship and earning an invitation to the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament.
The women’s team now heads to California to face San Diego State at 4 p.m. Sunday after upsetting No. 1-seed Texas A&M in the first round of WBIT play Thursday.
