Temporary changes are affecting McNeese student parking as both the lot near the Team Store is being resurfaced and Chozen Hall flooding prompted some university staff to operate from locations.
“We have the lot at the Team Store and softball/soccer offices that is being resurfaced, and we had to pivot some with the relocation of the Enrollment Management staffing, but both situations are temporary,” McNeese State University Police Chief William Scheufens said.
The staff relocation followed a water leak in Chozen Hall on Aug. 26th that forced several offices to temporarily relocate to the Parra Ballroom. Those offices include Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Registrar’s Office, Student Central, Advising, Admissions, International Advising and Dual Enrollment. The library parking lot was designated to faculty and staff during the relocation.
Despite those temporary changes, commuter parking remains available in several areas across campus. These areas include the student lot near the Shearman Fine Arts Center, the three-story parking garage, spaces near Hartner Hall and the tennis courts, and parking beside and behind Gayle Hall.
Students who cannot find parking closer to campus buildings can also use the stadium parking area and other designated overflow parking.
Freshman Ava Borel said finding a parking space close to her class can sometimes be difficult.
“It’s a bit hard for me to find parking spots close to my classes,” Borel said, “but there is always a spot available for me.”
Students who want to know more about parking can access McNeese’s parking guide on the university’s website.
“Take advantage of the parking garage. It is there for them [students],” Scheufens said. “They can eliminate a lot of stress by arriving just a few minutes earlier than they have been, and they will make it to class in plenty of time.”
