Ball was the first guest writer of the semester brought in by the MFA program. “It’s important to me that we are able to bring in writers from all over the country.” said Dr. Kevin Thomason, assistant professor of English in the MFA program. The MFA program’s visiting writers work one-on-one with graduate students and present their work at a public readings. “The visiting writers are so important because they bring a flavor to McNeese we don’t,” Dr. Lynn Watson, a professor of the MFA program, said. “We need to see what else is going on in the world and expose the students to the greater world of poetry, bring some community. As much as I love teaching writing, there is something more about the community aspect of creative writing in the field that I love even more.” Ball’s reading was held Friday, Oct. 2. Grant Faulkner will be the next guest writer, with a reading scheduled for Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. |
