The McNeese Department of Visual Arts will feature a new art exhibition in the Abercrombie Gallery. The work is by graphic design artist and special guest Kevin Morrissey.

Morrissey is a painter and visual arts teacher who serves as the head of the fine arts department at Fort Dorchester High School. His creative work uses acrylic and mixed media. He is best known for painting animals set against architectural silhouettes, especially churches and chapels, over bold fields of color. His work in the exhibition will feature his new series of life jackets, sanctuaries and more.

Morrissey is one of the many artists brought to the Department of Visual Arts to educate students and help bring new perspectives to their learning. Along with his exhibition, Morrissey will spend time with art students to create a mural on the wall of the department.

“We, as faculty here in visual arts, try to bring in visiting artists every semester as part of helping enrich the student experience and get other viewpoints and perspectives,” Tom Galmarini, a graphic design professor, said.

The exhibit will run from Oct. 22 to Dec. 3. The Abercrombie Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The department will also hold a gallery talk and light reception for Morrissey’s exhibition on Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.
